SharePoint.DesignFactory.ContentFiles NuGet Package

The SharePoint.DesignFactory.ContentFiles package enables a fast development, test, package and deploy cycle for all artifacts that can be uploaded to a SharePoint content database and optionally have metadata.

Files and their metadata are managed in Visual Studio so you can use intellisense and source control. Works for SharePoint 2007, 2010, 2013 and Office365.

For SharePoint 2010, 2013 and Office365 you don't need SharePoint on your development machine! A deployment package can be used for deployment to dev, test, acceptation and production.
